I’m Every Woman

This is my first post so be patient. I have a passion for all things creative, including writing, but it has been some time since I have put my talents to use.

Since I have found myself unemployed for the last 111 days, 4 hours and 33 minutes (but who’s counting), I have gravitated back to the gifts and talents God gave me – those things that make me unique. So here I am.

This morning as I began my morning ritual: rolling out of bed, brushing my teeth, and driving to Starbucks in my pjs for a Venti Pike Place, I thought about the song I’m Every Woman.

The late great Whitney Houston breathed new life into this song at the pinnacle of her career. She declared that “anything you want done baby, I do it naturally.” While her personal life may not have exemplified the lyrics, bear with me, I am making a point.

As I sat in the Starbucks drive-thru awaiting my fix, I thought about the correlation of the lyrics with the ultimate woman: The Proverbs 31 woman.

She is not a super model nor has her last name and over-the-top lifestyle gained her unwarranted fame as today’s celebs. Neither is she baring her mess on “reality TV” with her frienemies. No she is educated, virtuous, a wife, a mother, a business owner, AND she is fashionable! This sister does it naturally!

Who is artsistah?  I can not claim that I am the proverbial queen but my goal is to never stop evolving into her.  In my early twenties I found an oversized t-shirt with a stick figure that said “artsista”. I wore that t-shirt until it disintegrated. Actually, I think I still have it as a keepsake packed away somewhere (because I am also a semi-hoarder but that’s another blog).

Anyway, as the Internet began to surge, I choose Artsistah for my MySpace account name. Yes, MySpace.

Since then, Artsistah became my creative alter ego. As I said, I love allthings creative including God, decor, graphic design, writing, art and fashion.

I have heard it said, “Your purpose (the reason you were created) is that thing you would do for free. So here I am, sharing my journey, my lifestyle with you for free.
