As Hurricane Irma barrels down on Florida my life is already experiencing high winds, tornados , and storm surges.
Ladies, what do you do when you thought he was the one, only to find out he isn’t?
I mean he is articulate, educated, funny, handsome, well groomed, concerned about current events, watches CNN as much as you do and even Meet The Press. His grandmother kept him in church. He takes his mother’s trash out. He disciplines his niece. He prays and agrees with you. He is a good father. Eats clean. Works out.
He has to be the husband you’ve believed God for, right?
But there is one small detail…
You thought you were falling in love. You spend hours on the phone, Facetime, texting. You tell him everything. You spend the weekend together which solidifies the fact that you are in love.
This in just two short months
When you mention something to him about a concern you feel is disrespectful he becomes offensive and even verbally disrespectful. He is mean and hurtful. He is cold and callous. Verbally abusive.
He gets mad and extremely angry at you.
Nothing you say or do is right.
Call me crazy, it is inappropriate for a man you’re in a relationship to be lusting after other women on social media – that is – if you’re really together.
He has you questioning yourself for mentioning it and even your authenticity – the relationship you’ve nurtured with Christ.
Is this the same man?
This in the midst of a hurricane.
You would think he’d be there to support you to help you but he is arguing about what you said or didn’t say or who you said it to.
Meanwhile the storm proceeds toward your home.
The good thing is you know who you are in Christ.
He said don’t text or call him again and you can say 👋, hola, see ya, adios, ✌🏽
When you know you are fearfully and wonderfully made, you can face the storms of life as you always have – with the Lord.
So while our feelings may be hurt always remember – 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
“Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.”
That’s love and don’t believe just because you can check off your list of must haves that this is him.
Does he love you like Christ loved the church? Or does he have some type of inferiority complex towards you?
Does he encourage you? Support you? Or is he negative about your passions?
The Bible also talks about being unequally yoked with unbelievers. While he presents himself as a believer, are you equally yoked?
Ladies, don’t be fooled, this storm is not to destroy you or to kill you. It is to reveal to you who people really are, to detour you from making yet another wrong turn.
Focus on you. Focus on receiving everything God promised and don’t receive someone’s negativity in your life or accept mediocrity.
Thank you God for this storm, for revealing to me what I could not see. Thank you for loving me so much to tell me no and dispersing a storm to redirect my steps.
You are priceless (Proverbs 31). You are a good thing (Proverbs 18:22). God loves you (John 3:16). God is with you (Hebrews 13:5 and Matthew 28:20). You are fearfully and wonderfully made (Proverbs 139:14). You are God’s masterpiece (Ephesians 2:10).
Ladies, as Mother Maya Angelou said when a person shows you who they are, believe them.
As with all my blogs, if I can encourage just one person, I have achieved success.
Be encouraged and wait for it!
